The indie rock website Idolator has a thread in which readers/posters discuss signs of the impending apocalypse. One of the signs listed is my recent review of the Hold Steady album Stay Positive in Christianity Today Magazine.
Just doing my part to hasten the Day of the Lord. If you're interested in reading the review, you can check it out here.

this is grin-inducing. I'd humbly submit that in the final reckoning, this small subversion may rank high on your list of accomplishments.
thanks for seeing christ where others only see grist.

Thanks, jnf. It should be pointed out that none of this was done subversively, that the CT Arts and Culture editor and I had a couple e-mail discussions about the album, that the usual qualms and reservations were raised, and that the magazine went ahead and published the review anyway. If there are kudos to be had here, CT is deserving of its share.
are you not writing for Paste right now? I haven't seen your name pop up recently. Just curious.
Gar, I'm still writing for Paste. I have four or five articles/reviews in the pipeline that will appear over the next few months.
I'm definitely writing less, although that's been my choice, not anything imposed on me by Paste. This summer I ended up speaking at three conferences -- a total of ten different sessions for which I needed to prepare -- and that seriously cut into the time I had to write about music. Then I came home to find our two surviving parents dying (one of whom has since passed away, and one who is still in process). There is only so much time in the day, and music writing dropped down the priority list. It will pick up again. But right now, this is a season where I won't be doing a lot of writing.
Having read the reader reviews on the website with your article, I must echo your kudos to CT. Hopefully they will continue to print your reviews without suffering too many subscription cancellations.
Yeah, Bill, I knew those kinds of comments would be forthcoming. Let me reiterate: kudos to CT.
Loved the photo that accompanied this blog. Was that a shot of the band performing in Clear Lake, Iowa?
Yeah, I know you have had your hands full. I always enjoy reading your reviews and articles and have missed seeing your name in the magazine.
I read your review on CT last month and immediately started listening to The Hold Steady. It is about all I have listened to when I am in the car or out for a run for weeks. It was gutsy getting the review printed. I have enjoyed their music and meeting the characters in the songs (and wondering what it is all about). Thanks for the introduction.
