They were one-hit wonders, but what a hit. The world can never have too many three-minute jangly pop songs about girls. Echoes of the early Hollies and The Searchers abound. Rumor has it that they're about to record their second album, nineteen years after the first.
I had that album. I was 15 or so and just getting into "alternative" music. I remember another song from that album called "Don't Go Back to Doldrum", I think.

It's certainly about as addictive, as witnessed by the fact that I've now played that video about eight times today.

He may be obsessive.
ReplyDeleteBut not too much. Look, for those of us who grew up with the sound of the British Invasion '64, this is the Holy Grail, the mother lode, the main vein, the Shangri-La of the La's brief but magnificent existence. Two and a half minutes of pop perfection.

ReplyDeleteI have heard that song covered over the years and in concert with Leigh Nash singing it. I didn't think to seek out the original but now I am curious about the band & the new
album.
Some people want to fill the world with jangly pop songs. What's wrong with that?
