That was actually a headline on MSNBC yesterday. But it was our German restaurant, Schmidt's in German Village, home of the inexplicably named Bahama Mama.
It's either the best or wurst political headline I've seen in a while. Media bias? What do you mean?
what is it about those European countries that theycan put a crowd of a hundred thousand together at the drop of a hat?
ReplyDeleteAnd I don't quite understand his "this is our moment" comment. Does he have some sort of secret agreement with Germany?
Still I can see how iris exciting for them all. A mixed race man being cheered where once he would havebeen considered sub-human.
"Media bias? What do you mean?"
ReplyDeleteYeah, you know, they say facts have a liberal bias. ;)
Maybe it has something to do with the fact that The Decemberists gave a free concert right before Obama came on. Though you didn't hear much about that did you? Hey, I hate McCain and Bush as much as the next guy and voted for Nader the last two elections, but I mean seriously, this shit is funny.
ReplyDeletehehe, oops, that was the Portland show with The Decemberists, my bad. Just two popular German bands this time around.
ReplyDeleteyikes, justbennett. is the race comment necessary?
ReplyDeletei don't think having a "secret agreement" with germany is the point. it's good for america to get positive global p.r.
the rumor is that the the rest of the globe doesn't think too highly of us.

Actually Zena, if you read Obama's remarks, he's the one who made a point of his race. I agree that it's irrelevant, and would be happy if Obama quit bringing it up at every turn.
ReplyDeletejustbennett's point is well-taken. It's also worth noting that the heady response to Obama in Germany and France is ironic given that minorities in those countries are largely invisible, especially in positions of power. The idea seems to be that the US should by all means elect Obama; but don't expect to find anyone like him elected by those same sophisticated Europeans. Pffft!
i hadn't realized that obama had referred to himself as sub-human. sorry about that one.
ReplyDeleteyou're right. the climate towards minorities in those areas is disappointing and deplorable. not too far off from our own.
i think the idea is less about electing "anyone like him" and more about electing who rises to the top and is worthy of office.
~zena; who is done with this conversation. in a good way.
Got to say he's looking good in the picture. He'll do anything for votes and popularity.
ReplyDeleteThe Center for Media and Public Affairs at George Mason University, where researchers have tracked network news content for two decades, found that ABC, NBC and CBS were tougher on Obama than on Republican John McCain during the first six weeks of the general-election campaign.
ReplyDeleteYou read it right: tougher on the Democrat.
(NOTE: The CMPA has oft-times been questioned about their own neutrality but biased toward conservative causes. They famously declared that Fox News IS the most fair and balanced!)

@ justbunnett: we're about 1001 times less paranoid than you American people :-)
ReplyDeleteI hope, for the World's Sake, that you guys will use your brains for once and will vote for Obama! The world outside has enough after 8 years of this Bu(ll)sh*t "mass destruction" dictatorship.
