better than cate blanchett in the film is stephen malkmus, jeff tweedy, eddie vedder, john doe, willie nelson, yo la tengo, iron and wine, jim james, calexico, hold steady, jack johnson, roger mcguinn, los lobos, sonic youth, tom verlaine, charlotte gainesbourg, ramblin' jack, mark lanegan, sufjan stevens, cat power, mason jennings, antony and the johnsons, richie havens, and the man himself (doing the title number on its first official release) on the soundtrack. many are backed by "the million dollar bashers," who happen to be tom verlaine, nels cline of wilco, john medeski of medeski martin and wood on keyboards, sonic youth sometimes-drummer steve shelley on the skins and dylan bassist tony garnier.
Wow. That's an amazing lineup, all right. And I just checked, and one Bob Forrest is performing "Moonshiner," which Dylan recorded very early in his career. A genuine Bob Forrest sighting! You can't imagine how happy this makes me. Bob Forrest was the leader of the great, and greatly underappareciated early '90s L.A. band Thelonious Monster. It's so nice to see him back again.
Here's the full soundtrack. Um, how do you say "Holy Shit!" in an appropriately poetic Dylan manner?
