The new issue of Paste (Issue #23) is out. Thom Yorke of Radiohead is on the cover, and there are feature articles on Yorke, The Long Winters, Snow Patrol, Paul Simon, and filmmaker Michel Gondry (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind). I have four album reviews, my backpage column (this time on Celtic punks The Pogues), and an article on poetry slams, featuring (for you Columbus folks) a flattering photo of the big, bald head of Dan Thress. Plus a 21-song CD and a 4+ hour DVD with short films and music videos from Al Green, Patty Griffin, Iron and Wine, The Shins, The Raconteurs, and many more.
Paste is going monthly, which means that I now have twice as much work to do. But that’s a good thing, and I’m thankful.
Andy, you're such a tease
ReplyDeleteI am? Why? Every word I write there is true.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see it. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Louise. I hope you like the article. I should also mention that Scott Woods (photo, and lots of quotes) is also featured prominently. I hope I was able to accurately capture the "essence" of a poetry slam.
ReplyDeleteIf the issue is not out yet (it may not be; it tends to reach subscribers a few days before it hits places like Borders and Barnes and Noble), it will be out very soon.
It's here! Barnes & Nobles has it. Get your copy now!!!
ReplyDeleteIt's not that what you wrote is true or not. Until I get a chance to pick it up your still a tease.
ReplyDeleteJust like the Today show, They keep telling you during every commercial break that they will have story X. But that story is always at 8:30. They keep teasing you with the most sintilating story to keep you tuned in.
Karl
Andy,
ReplyDeleteThe article is great, and te feedback so far on it from all quarters has been VERY flattering. It's amazing how one can get propos away from home, while their local press plays dead.
Thank you so much for the push. Really, it's one more thing I can show my mother to make not finishing college okay!
I have now seen the article and...
ReplyDeleteI love it.
Dang, if that wasn't the Jazz slam I missed. But I could match up your article with any number of other slams I've seen. I'm glad you wrote that.
In a handsome magazine,
ReplyDeleteloaded with hipsters,
that's us, under a big headline
that reads CULTURE.
thanks ANDY!
Andy,
ReplyDeleteI saw this issue and would like to lodge the following complaints about the article on the top 10 dead song writers:
1. Where's Mozart? Even I know he was a great song writer, even if he did use too many notes.
2. David did not write the "by the waters of Babylon psalm", he had been dead for at least 400 years by the time Ps. 137 was written.
3. Where's Johnny Cash?
4. Why only 10 song writers?
5. Dylan is not dead.
6. What about Keith Richards? (I hear he's not dead, but have you seen him? He looks dead.)
7. There's a lack of tongue-in-cheek humor.
my head is in the picture! wooo! i'm in paste! :D
