Read your article and skimmed the responses. As someone who knows a little about colleges and universities from the administrative standpoint, I can tell you that bad publicity of any kind is anathema, and explaining this band name does not lend itself to a short one-sentence sound bite. In addition, private colleges rely on donors and tuition payers to a greater extent than public universities do, and the smaller and less well-endowed schools feel particularly vulnerable, especially in these tough economic times. So, when the opposition can cite the threat to the survival of the institution, it's pretty much a done deal as far as the eventual decision. For what it's worth, even though I'm a fan of the group as well, as a financial administrator of a university, I would have recommended the same decision to the President of Calvin.
