just make sure you don't spontaneously start dancing at taylor...that would probably be frowned upon!
i went there for 2 years from 92-94 before dropping out to play bass in a rock band. it's where i met jeff c.
Thanks, Michael. You're probably fairly safe on the spontaneous dancing front. But I did have to read through and sign a long three-page form that let me know exactly what I could and could not do while I was at Taylor. I am apparently also unable to bring in fireworks and/or other pyrotechnics. And I had so looked forward to making my entrance in the student union following a blinding flash of light.
What will you be speaking on at Cornerstone?
Hi, Jason. Congratulations on the birth of your son.
The Cornerstone details aren't entirely worked out yet, but in general I'll be talking about music as a force for good in my life; sort of the reverse of the pull-up-the-drawbridge-and-hide-the-women-and-children approach that often characterizes a Christian approach to music. I'll be talking about love songs. And my baby left me songs. And songs about social justice. And songs that I believe draw me closer to God, including those by Miles Davis and Sigur Ros. And songs that have three chords and a good beat that make me want to jump up and down on the couch cushions and play air guitar. All of the above.
If you have a few days before or after Dallas, you ought to swing down to Austin. I'm sure we could find some shows to make the trip worth your while.
What will you talk about at Taylor? Be sure not to drop any f-bombs or encourage any consumption of alcoholic beverages. I went there, and I happen to know those things are against the Life Together Covenant.

Since it's so close to Valentine's Day, I've decided to talk about love (and loss of love) songs. Specifically I'll be talking about "Fake Plastic Trees" by Radiohead, "You Can't Fail Me Now" by Joe Henry, and "One of the Best Ones" by Bruce Cockburn.
I look forward to the Matthew Ryan piece, since I've been a fan for about 10 years! He doesn't get enough press!
